The premise of this idea was to create a magnetic field, over which a swarm of magnets would move. Trail and error, however, proved it to be more complicated than originally thought. This led to experiments with metal powder that only at times came to interesting results. The problem here was that the results were very hard to recreate and direct. In this experiment I used two round disks, covered with magnets. These disks fit into each other, and by turning, the magnetic field would shift as well. Eventually, I chose to use only one unit to simulate insect behavior. To prevent the unit from resting on one spot, it is being kept in motion by a motor oscillating it over the field. The image gives an impression of the movements created by this unit.
